Billy Chen

Billy Chen is a Chinese artist based in New York whose practice explores the visual codes embedded in everyday life and the layered experiences of cultural translation. Born and raised in Shanghai before moving to New York at the age of thirteen, his cross-cultural upbringing informs his sensitivity to the ways images shape perception and identity. In his recent collaboration with Way and Lu Gao, Chen performs on the shakuhachi, creating live sonic environments that extend the trio’s exploration of attention and embodied perception.
